@Willy Stephen March 23, 2020

The Avionics team of the Nakuja project is a team made up of viable and enthusiastic students from the Pan African University Institute of Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI) and Jomo Kenyatta Univesity of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). The team is in charge of designing, testing and implementing the avionics system of our rocket.

Team Structure

The Avionics team is made up of 7 members so far and these are; Willy Tounsi (Team Leader), Michael, Davidson, Gebreabzgi, Mumo Michael and James.

Group Activities

@Willy on March 25, 2020

Our objective is to design, test and implement the avionic systems of our rocket. The first phase of our objective was to do an extensive research on flight controllers and sensors used in avionics. Also, do a benchmarking of what has been done in other universities working on rocket projects. Presently, the team is programming and testing the GY-521 and GY-80 IMUs. In addition to that, extensive research on the following sensors is ongoing;

  • Thrust measurement sensors
  • Pressure transducers for combustion chamber measurement
  • Thermocouples for motor case temperature measurement during firing
  • Our Milestones

    Presently, we are focusing our design on sold motor rocket since we are envisaging our first solid motor test launch in September 2020. The team is working hard toward this goal and we are very confident to achieve this. Keep following the progress of our work……
